Question and Answer about Android from Stack Exchange network.
My phone is not rooted.
I have shared folders on a Synology drive which I can mount on a couple of different Macs running different versions of Mac OSX. I am assuming the folders are published using CIFS/SMB but I cannot mount them on my Android phone using file manager type applications. So far I have tried "ES File Explorer", "Network Browser" and "File Commander" none of which are able to connect.
I can connect to the Synology home page using a browser on the phone so network connectivity is OK. Do I need to disable/enable firewall/sharing settings on the phone?
Ever since I updated Device Care on my Samsung Galaxy A10s running Android Pie, I lost my "Clear Space" option that clears unnecessary data, including cache of all apps including system apps on my phone!
Since, I'm not installing any third party apps, for this purpose, I decided to manually "clear cache" of any desired apps from Settings > Apps > App name
and tapping Clear Cache
. To my surprise, I found the Gallery app has about half a GB of cache, and I immediately cleared it.
I realize that apps cache stuff to improve performance, predict data to auto fill on text boxes, and various other stuff, to improve user experience. But that's taking up a lot of my Internal memory!
My question is :
Is this a safe practice?
Will this procedure damage the executable or normal functioning of my app?
Or, whether all these are dependent on the App developer / manufacturer ?
For default apps like Gallery or Chrome is this a safe practice?
It should work similarly as to going to a random HTTPS website, where the supplied certificate is backed by a CA, and based on which a secure connection is made. Then authentication follows over the secure connection.
So why am I required to supply both user and CA certificates. In other words, why is it not merely an option?
Edit: now that I look at it, it seems that no user nor password can be supplied either, so the client authentication happens based on the user certificate. Only for PPTP a password is required (which is not a secure protocol anyway). So the question becomes: why have they chosen to support only IKEv2 with user certificates and not passwords. It can not be for security reasons since PPTP is supported.
Apps like Bluetooth Mono Router & BTmono let you hear music on old Bluetooth (BT) earphones that were mono (meant for voice calls only since they support Headset Profile (HSP) and don't support A2DP profile) . (Edit : MonoBt play is another such app)
So, if you have such mono sets lying around, you can use them for listening to music, YouTube, etc which is good.
There is a more interesting aspect to it - these allow you to use your BT ear sets (whether mono or the latest ones supporting BT 5.0 ) to input audio into a video recording on your cell phone. You can comfortably record videos with your BT audio input as long as you are in range, without using wired microphone or UHF transmission. See Bluetooth input for video recording : Android 10, One Plus 7
How does this work?. (I've spent several hours unsuccessfully searching the net and sister SE sites) .
I have found a pretty old device Huawei Ascend Y210. This mobile officially has Android 2.3.3 (API level 10). I found an online custom lollipop ROM for the specific mobile. The device has CWM as custom recovery. The zip file (the rom file) was installed successfully. The environment feels like android Lollipop should look like. Going to the mobile's settings > About phone > Android version, the version is 5.0.1 as expected. Using the command adb shell getprop ro.build.version.release
the result is 5.0.1 indeed. However, I tried running adb shell getprop ro.build.version.sdk
the result is 10 which is the API level of the stock android of the phone (Android 2.3.3). Apps made from API level 23 will fail to install as the API level is getting recognized as 10. Changing the apps' Minimum API level to 10 using APK Editor Studio, allows the app to get installed but it crashes once I try to open it.
Is that a bug? I mean can I somewhere change the API level of the device? Or is the ROM a scam and the android is never really getting updated to 5.0.1 and the ROM just changes the graphic interface? How is it even possible to trick the adb that the android version is 5.0.1 but keep the API level to 10?
P.S.: If someone has any ROM for Huawei Ascend Y210 with android 5.0.1 or higher handy, I would appreciate a download link.
Thanks in advance!
I am using oneplus 6 with Android 10 in OxygenOS 10.3.3.
In recent 2 days, I was waked up by the mobile alarm at exactly 08:30 am every morning.
However, I cannot find the alarm app which generate this wake-up alarm.
I have checked the recent app, there is no app running recently at around 08:30.
I search my app with the keyword alarm
, I found 2 app. I am sure that I does not set the wake up time in these 2 app at 08:30. Actually, I set the wake-up time to 07:10 for one of the 2 app.
So, I feel quite strange. Where is the 08:30 wake-up time set ?
Is my mobile hacked ?
Can anyone help me to find out why there is an alarm at about 08:30 am ?
A lot of screenshots in the Internet mention a 'audio source' USB configuration for Android. For example, this one from Google:
However, I cannot see this option with my SM-A510F with Android 9 (LineageOS 16).
Is there something I can do to enable it? Is it definitively gone from Android?
I really wanted to know the CPU word length of Samsung Galaxy A10s, running Android Pie. In the first appearance it looks like it has a 64 bit processor, since, it uses the MediaTek Helios P22 chipset, but I dont think apps/programs running in user space have access to 64 bit instructions etc. . Even __aarch64__
is undefined. The OS identifies it as ARM 7 and hence it cannot use AES instruction sets and other features. If it were the ARM Cortex A53 mentioned by MediaTek Helios P22 it should have an ARM architecture of 8.
- Is this because the Kernel is 32 bit ?
- Or is the Android permissions blocking it ?
- How can I identify my Kernel is a 32 bit or 64 bit ?
Please do correct me, if I am wrong !?
Every help will be greatly appreciated!
I am using the latest version of adb
with the pull
command to backup my data.
Sometimes adb pull
doesn't backup all of my files, so I am trying to figure out which files have not been backed up.
Using adb logcat -f logcat.txt bugreport pull "my path" "my path 2"
just throws me a create bugreport fail!
and create bugreports dir error!!
. I've tried multiple directories with full permission but with no luck.
So I am using adb
to copy all of my Android files to my Windows PC with this command: adb pull -a /mnt/sdcard C:\backup
And when it's done it says all x amount of files have been pulled, I can confirm that the number of pulled files matches the amount of files that reside inside the folder of my Android storage but when I check how many files are actually in the C:\backup
folder, I see about 200 missing or in other words adb skipped about 200 files and did not copy them over to my C:\backup
folder.
I understand that this could be due to path limit or due to some files containing characters in their filenames that Windows' NTFS file system just doesn't allow.
How can I see what files are actually being skipped? Is there a switch in adb
or some trick?
Phone stucks on boot loading.
wipe data/factory reset gives E:failed to mount/ cache error
wipe cache partition also fails.
abd sideload also give E:failed to mount/ cache Can't open vs..
Many same post suggest TWRP but i don't have it. Did not understand how to install it on a phone can't open.
Many more says EMMC chip is dead. I hope it is not. I know it is very likely but i want to try other options first if i can.
I bought a huawei p30 for development purposes. So the first thing i did, it is enable development mode, enable adb over usb, then type adb devices
... nothing!
When I enable adb over usb, the setting is not saved! If I go back, and then enter the developer menu, it's disabled again!
I found this workaround:
- Dial
*#*#2846579#*#*
- Select background
- Select USB mode
- Select "Google mode"
- Open settings
- Find development options
- Enable ADB over USB.
Now it works... for a little while! Just unplug the cable for 1 second, and I need to repeat all the steps again! ADB disabled, USB mode reverted to "huawei mode", and so on! This is ridiculous! I bought this device for development purposes, it should have a permanent way to enable adb, as expected in each single Android device since version 1.0. How devs can debug huawei devices if each time enabling adb is such an hassle???
I must be missing something, how to permanently enable adb on (newest?) Huawei devices?
I would like to ask, whether a blocked contact will receive an information,if I change my Viber phone number? Is it possible to make the change by only informing a selected group of contacts or everyone I had previous communication with, will get the notification of me changing the number?
Thanks
In using an app, for example Wechat, to have video chats.
Two Android phones A and B are sitting in the same room. The two users of A and B stated video chat with mobile phones C and D in another city, when two users of C and D are also sitting in the same room.
That is, phone A is calling phone C; phone B is calling phone D.
When the video chats started, because phones A and B, C and D are close to each other, sharp noises started to appear.
What's the way to prevent this noises in the video chats?
Thank you.
So, I wanted to replace the stock boot animation that comes with Evolution X since it is kind of boring, but the problem was that I couldn't find the /system/media/
directory in any root browser or even the file manager built within TWRP. I just need to know where I can find the bootanimation.zip
file in Evolution X, and if there are any further steps required to change it other than just backing up the original boot animation and replacing it.
Specifics: I'm running the latest official build of Evolution X for zerofltexx
(Samsung Galaxy S6) with MagiskRoot and a few Magisk Modules.
I just got this update notification
Update time zones
New time zone definitions are available. Time zones will be updated the next time your phone restarts.
Did any real time zones actually change or was this a bug fix? What changed?

Is it possible to run an operating system other than Android on Android devices? I know that the bootloader is hard-coded into the firmware and even if you tried you can't change what it does but what about from that bootloader you use the kernel that it loads to load another Operating System. Something like a secondary bootloader. Is that possible? Could you compile your own Operating System and install it on an Android device if all the necessary requirements are met? What about a "Hello World" Operating System? Is that possible too at least? And I don't mean Linux.
I would like to recover message attachments from a Pixel 3 that died recently. (Yes, I should have had them saved and backed up, but I missed that option for message attachments.)
However, the phone is minimally functional. If the phone could turn on, I could sync those files and be done. It also appears that I need to turn the phone on to enable usb debugging for ADB. I can reach the fastboot menu by holding the power and volume down buttons, but if I try to go past that into "Start" or "Recovery Mode" or even "Rescue Mode," the phone powers off again.
While in the fastboot menu, I can see that a Pixel 3 device is connected by usb to my computer. I have installed Android Studio, Android SDK, and the Google USB drivers. The phone appeared as "LeMobile Android Device" at first, but after changing the driver to Google's it is now "Android Device"--"Android Bootloader Interface."
Running adb devices returns an empty list even while Device Manager shows it is attached (probably because I can't turn the phone on and enable usb debugging).
I'm out of ideas, and am looking for ADB tips to try. What can I try next? How can I get the phone to start or to get access to the phone without leaving the fastboot menu?
Thanks.
I was recently thinking about getting a custom boot animation for my phone, so I installed a root browser and looked for /system/media/
but it wasn't there! I also tried the file manager built into TWRP, but I couldn't find it there either. When I tried to use the "Boot Animations for Superuser" app, it ran into an error trying to backup the existing boot animation. If the /system/media/
folder is missing, how am I still getting the default boot animation that comes with Evolution X? Anyways, I just need help on how to replace the boot animation.
I'm running Evolution X 4.3 (official) for zerofltexx (Samsung Galaxy S6) with MagiskRoot and a few Magisk Modules.
When I plug in my Android device to my computer it gets connected as a media device under MTP
mode. I can browse a bit of the folders on my device via my computer. I'm wondering how much of the device am I actually able to see? What sort of folders and content specifically is not visible over MTP? Does MTP have a corresponding set of file permissions associated with it?
